2018 IS HERE!

Happy New Year everyone!!

What are your plans, hopes, and dreams for the new year?

Growing up, New Year Resolutions were very important in my family. At dinner we would read through our resolutions from the previous year and discuss the ones for the new year. While I never understood why I had to do this over the years it has become clear. Set goals and strive to achieve them. In other words, finish something you start. At work I have a daily, weekly “to-do” list and goals for performance – why wouldn’t I want that in my personal life.

So, with not having been held accountable the past several years for upholding New Year Resolutions – I’m changing that today. I want to be held accountable, I want to strive to be better, and I want to finish this thing I’m starting. Now, I won’t share with you all my resolutions as some are quite personal – but I will share some generic ones that may help you in the new year.

Lists don’t need to be long, in fact I don’t believe they should be. The bullet points should be short, concise, and reasonable. Below are some generic headings that you can incorporate in your resolutions to make 2018 a great year for yourself!

If not now then when?

Practice more patience

Practicing patience in all aspects of life will help you fell lighter and overall better! Don’t sweat the small stuff, take deep breathes, and know that everything happens for a reason. I will practice more patience in my relationships, with Riley, and in the workplace.

Drink more water

Drinking water hydrates you, gives you energy, flushes out toxins, boots your immune system, prevents cramps and sprains, and more!

Start a healthy eating habit

How much better do you feel after eating good healthy foods versus greasy fatty foods? I know I feel so much better. You know the saying, you are what you eat…

Move your body daily

Do something, get your body moving. Weather it’s a walk, a run, biking, going to the gym do something that gets your body moving. Most people work at a desk all day – set alarms to get up and walk around. If you have an apple watch it does it for you! 🙂 If I’ve been sitting too long my watch vibrates and tells me its time to stand up and stretch.

Do something everyday that makes you happy.

Read more books

This is a goal of mine this year. I really enjoy reading but sometimes find it “hard” to find the time…LAME excuse but it’s true. So, this year I’ve made it a goal to read 10 books. May not be that much but it’s more than I did last year. I’m currently reading, The Kite Runner, if you haven’t read it I HIGHLY suggest it.

Listen to the news

You don’t have to agree with the news but in my opinion it’s good to know what’s going on in the world. No one what’s to be left in the dark on hot topics and events. I personally listen to the news while driving to and from work and for about an hour when I get to my desk.

Spend more time with family and those you love

I recently spent time in my bathing room crying my eyes out after listening to, Five More Minutes, by Scotty McCreery (if you’re emotional just don’t listen to it)! The song, along with things I’ve heard in the news, are reminders to tell those you love you love them each and every day. To call your grandpa, to hug a friend, to smile. You never know what tomorrow holds or next year. Don’t waste any time with those you love.
