Hey there yall! While I’m excited to be writing this blog post it’s at a time when Kennedy is slightly out of her routine! I do think it’s due to the time change we just had. I’m hopeful things will start to get back to normal (fingers crossed today is that day)! None the less we have been on a solid schedule for about 2 months now and it’s been glorious. Before I go any further I need to give credit where credit is due. Moms On Call has been so great for me. It’s a set of books that walk you through all stages of your baby. I would highly recommend getting these books or putting them on your registry! You don’t have to do everything they suggest in the books. The biggest take away I got was the “A Typical Day” section that breaks down a daily routine for you!! WHAT?! I modify it slightly and every day is a little different depending on what we are doing.

Yes, we are on a schedule BUT it was not easy getting here! Yall, the first 5 months of Kennedy’s life were rough. Not horrible, not miserable but yes they were rough. I think (no, I know) it was all the adjustment Steven and I both had to make. It wasn’t until Kennedy and I went to Colorado the first time and came back that we settled into a routine (I mention going to CO because it’s dates I KNOW and remember so it’s easy to mark things that happened around that time). When we got back Kennedy started rolling over so we took the swaddle away and that first night home I put her in her room for the FIRST time!!! Now for a little more back story….

The first three months of Kennedy’s life she and I slept on the couch!! YES, yall the couch. We did this because Steven would take the late night shift and I the early morning baby watch. While we both thought this was a good idea we WILL NOT be doing this for the next baby! haha you live and you learn!! BUT yes Kennedy slept in her Dock which actually was a life saver – she loved it! She actually slept in the Dock until we got back from CO that first time (when she was just under 5 months and started rolling over). If you don’t have a Dock I would highly recommend it! Anyways, we weren’t really on any sort of schedule since she was eating when hungry and sleeping when tired…oh the life!!

It wasn’t until we got home from CO that we really got on a schedule. That first night she slept in her bed the for the first time…all night! I was SO tired I didn’t mind and the transition was so dang easy (for me emotionally). Okay, so we’ve been on the same schedule – like I mentioned earlier, It changes slightly every day depending on what we are doing. Here is our rough schedule that we’ve been on since she was 5 months old…

Kennedy’s Schedule

7:30 a.m.          Wake Up; Bottle (6 oz.)

8/8:30 a.m.       Baby Food (Happy Baby Cereal mixed w/ Happy Baby Fruits)

9 a.m.                Nap Time (she will typically take an 1.5 – 2 hr nap)

11 a.m.              Wake Up; Bottle (6 oz.)

12 p.m.              Baby Food (Happy Baby Cereal mixed w/ Happy Baby Fruits – sometimes veggies)

12:30 p.m.         Nap Time (she will typically take an 1.5 – 2 hr nap)

2:30 p.m.           Wake Up; Bottle (6 oz.)

3:30 p.m.           Baby Food (Happy Baby Veggies sometimes Happy Baby Fruits)

5 p.m.                 Small Cat Nap (usually 45 minutes)

6 p.m.                 Sometimes she will have some more Veggies (it really depends on how long she naps and how much she ate before     this nap)

6:30 p.m.          Bath Time (this is without a doubt her favorite time of day) We give her a bath every night and wash her hair every two to three nights)

7 p.m.                 Bottle (6 – 8 oz.) and Bed

As I’ve mentioned previously this schedule is VERY flexible. Sometimes we are home all day so it’s easier to stick to this schedule but there are days when we aren’t. The one thing we TRY to be home for though is the “BedTime Routine” starting with bath time. Depending on how the day went we will start this as early as 6 and she will be down as early as 6:30 (some nights).

I truly hope this helps some of you get on a little schedule. I would HIGHLY recommend getting the Moms On Call books they helped me SO much when I was trying to get on a schedule with Kennedy. I don’t follow all of their recommendations but I am so thankful for the schedule they created. Being a mom is truly “you don’t know what you don’t know” thing…I had NO idea what I was “supposed” to be doing when.

I do not claim to be a professional with babies schedules I’m just giving yall what works for Kennedy. As always I’m here if you have any questions!
